i dont know if you guys already know but you can get a tool called a chain checker. it tells you how much life you have left in the chain before it snaps on you.i bought one of these the other days because one my mates was dropping a bus shelter and his chain snapped leading to breaking both of his wrists.well worth investing in.

I find that extremely unlikely. There is a slightly different diameter where the spindle touches the bearing. If it was too big, it wouldnt have gone thru the other side. It will be snug.
